It seemed like summer would never end
playing beneath the willow tree.
We'd dance among dandelions
and chase butterflies with glee.
Lightening bugs glow, reminding us
of lighthouses casting their light across the sea.
Quiet whispers and laughter filled our
days and nights with youthful
anticipation of another day to come.
Down by the brook, a dam was built
by small hands. It held back a
stream where tadpoles swam.
We played leap frog there.
To us summer was a time of adventure.
We did not think of tomorrow as
adults did, we unashamedly took what
we could from the day.
Summer, was ours.
A cherished friend,
one we looked forward to
seeing each year.
